What is LOR? Letter of Recommendation

Letter of Recommendation

A Letter of Recommendation is basically a tool that needs to be submitted to the Admission committee of the college in which students are taking admission to show their strengths, weakness and their commitment towards the course and also help to gain admission into a course of their choice.

LOR, letter of recommendation is a letter issued by a professor or teacher that student have worked with. Teachers should now the factors that contribute to the selection of a candidate in securing the final. LOR shows the credibility of the candidate.

Why is it Needed?

LOR’s often come from an unbiased source and thus the college or university considers it a better parameter to judge a student. And are one of the best parameters to review the student. LOR should be written by a professor who has mentored the student before and who is close to student. If student is working, he/she can even get a LOR from their project manager or someone who can add value.

The Letter of Recommendation should be on the official letter-head as it shows that the person carries authority. The Letter should contain student’s achievements, his/her character traits as a person and how will it develop along the course. The letter should show the extra-curricular and co-curricular achievements that shows how you will contribute to their university in various fields as well.

Sometimes, the university may contact the recommender (the person who writes your Letter). Make everything that’s mentioned in LOR is genuine.

Make sure your Letter of Recommendation is genuine and related to you and is unbiased.

Most universities offering MS require at least 2 to 3 LORs. A good Letter of Recommendation should not be of more than one page.
